Bar Snacks

Hey there. Welcome to Live From the Lounge: Bar Snacks Edition. It’s just a little something to tide you over between rounds. Rest assured that Matt and Carol and Ann and John and Double Batch Daddy and I are all preparing our next Lounge Proper, but in this in between time, I want to pop in and share some nibbles with you.

Figgy Pudding - Kind of a Giant chocolate muffin.

Here are some of my thoughts after I made Figgy Puddin' for myself.

Rough chop the figs and dates. Maybe add nuts and/or candied fruits, if you’re into that.

It’s a recipe that’ll make 6-8 servings, not 4. Plan accordingly.

I’m not sure what the deal is with the sauce. That’s a lot of cream and butter and sugar. Feel free to adjust to taste.

Heat the Brandy before the flambe. Make a moat.

And so the Shortest Day came and the year died

  • And everywhere down the centuries of the snow-white world

  • Came people singing, dancing,

  • To drive the dark away.

  • They lighted candles in the winter trees;

  • They hung their homes with evergreen;

  • They burned beseeching fires all night long

  • To keep the year alive.

  • And when the new year’s sunshine blazed awake

  • They shouted, reveling.

  • Through all the frosty ages you can hear them

  • Echoing behind us—listen!

  • All the long echoes, sing the same delight,

  • This Shortest Day,

  • As promise wakens in the sleeping land:

  • They carol, feast, give thanks,

  • And dearly love their friends,

  • And hope for peace.
